"If I had a heart, I could love you,
If I had a voice, I'd sing.
After the night when I wake up,
I'll see what tomorrow brings."
"'You are smaller than the others. Odin has made you a Shaman, and a Smith. But if you must fight, do so as you work with the Wyrd: move yourself, and you will move your opponent.'"
Kind of a personal piece. I had a bout of nightmares a few nights ago that had to do with this man, whose name is, as of yet, unknown to me. I also started watching The Vikings again, and my Art History professor has been talking about how art is magic. So, this page happened. The first set of words are my favorite lyrics from the song "If I Had A Heart" by Fever Ray, and the second set is the only quote I remember from the series of dreams.
There are a few things with the guy that are funky and wrong, one of which is the angle of the highlights on his Ulfberht(imma derp), and the other is the two tattoos. He actually only had one tattoo, but it was on that arm, and it was of a North-style raven, to show his dedication to Odin. I drew the sign of the Raven Queen because I didn't get a clear image of his tatt, and I don't know how to draw North-style ravens. XD The runes are more or less symbolic, since, as was written, this man is(was?) a Shaman, and did a lot of work with interpreting runes and omens.
I don't remember the reason as to why he started fighting, but I do know that he eventually became strong enough and good enough to be given an Ulfberht to wield. If you don't know, Ulfberhts were probably the most technically advanced sword of that time; they were made 300+ years before the first Muramasa swords were made, and probably could have rivaled each other in strength. So, he was a high-ranking guy by the end of his life. He may have been someone's Thane, or even a Jarl himself.
But, anyway. Tell me what you think.
